Did "The Church" Begin on the Day of Pentecost?
Among the majority of Christians today, which includes most Baptists, there is the belief that the "church" began on the day of Pentecost when the Apostle Peter preached in Jerusalem and 3,000 people got saved and baptized. But what they fail to realize is that on the day of Pentecost "the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls" and "the Lord added to the church (that already existed) daily such as should be saved." As Pastor Jack Hyles has said, "You can't add to something that doesn't already exist!" Therefore, we must conclude that the very church that Jesus started with the twelve disciples was the same church in Jerusalem where 3,000 souls were saved, baptized, and joined.
Pentecost was merely the outworking of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the apostles and other believers who obeyed the Great Commission in getting the Gospel to every part of the earth, beginning in Jerusalem. As usual, Rome wants to take credit for that which was done by Baptists!
